15.1 Introduction
Relays have come a long way. Modern relays are high quality, very reliable,
cost effective components that are extremely forgiving to industrial
environments. They have distinctive performance/cost benefits over other
switching devices such as high immunity to EMI, low contact voltage drops, and
robust transient tolerance. Like any other electronic device, relays must be
properly specified to achieve optimum performance. The following paragraphs
